On natural gas, as long as the outage lasts; the gas grid almost always stays up when the electric grid goes down. Either way the engine wants an oil check during any run beyond a couple of days, which is part of what storm-week support is for.
What size generator does my house need? +
It depends on what must run, and motor startup loads decide more than square footage.
