Why natural gas wins where it is available

Fuel logistics decide how long a generator actually protects you. Propane holds a few days at full load before a refill; gasoline portables measure endurance in hours. A natural gas unit runs as long as the outage lasts, because the gas grid stays up through the windstorms that take the electric grid down. The engineering part: pressure and volume

Natural gas installs live or die on fuel delivery. Standby engines need sustained pressure in a narrow window measured in inches of water column, at a volume that a 22kW unit multiplies far beyond what a furnace draws. The developed length of the pipe run, every elbow, and every other appliance on the line all subtract from what reaches the generator at full load. We measure static and dynamic pressure, run the sizing math on paper you can keep, and coordinate meter upgrades with the utility when the numbers demand it. It is the least glamorous part of the job and the most common cause of mystery shutdowns when it is skipped.

The tap into your gas system gets a dedicated shutoff, a sediment trap, and an approved flex connection at the unit, with permits and a plumbing inspection behind all of it. If a meter relocation or regulator upgrade is needed, it has to be coordinated with the gas utility, which schedules its own meter work, and your gas service is shut off while that work is done.
